l suspect l am heavily insulin resistant. My biggest problem is that l love sugars and fast carbs. If l should stay away from sugar, simple carbs and even complex carbs like starch in potatos, bread, vegetables etc. I am not entirely sure what TO eat? But as the principles would basically be identical to that of a true diabetic - does anyone know any guides, or have any tips, for ''starting diabetics''? l basically need to know what most of my diet should consist of, and if possible, where to find recipes etc. for diabetics and others who are insulin resistant?

Thanks so much :)

If u crave sugar a lot. Treat yourself to maybe once a week 3 sugar free cookies. Or, they have small candy bars. They're all pretty good. But, do not eat too much they will give u diahhrea. It is a proven fact.

Also, if u do not know what to eat then u should maybe call ur doctor & have this have a nutritionist get a list of foods u should avoid & can eat. Or, go to a book store or the library & get a book on 1st starter is diabetics.

My step-dad is a diabetic. We get him these cookies every now & then. They're very good. http://murraysugarfree.com/

HOPE ALL THIS HELPS YOU OUT!! :)

You need to see a doctor to determine if you are insulin resistant first.
Try following Sugar Busters or the Atkins diets. These are low carb diets, but some of those recipes have a lot of fat and you can not over do that either. You may want to ask your doctor for a referal to see a nutritionist or dietician to help you, but first you need to find out if you have a problem at all.

Your best bet is to incorporate those foods into ur diet, but in small amounts. It is all about portion control, not deprivation. Your doc should have given u a target number of carbs not to exceed at each meal. Let is say it is 35g. That is a 1/2 cup of potatoes (not much), some veggies, & some meat. Or a ''fun size'' candy bar with 1/2 a sandwich. The only think l would totally kibosh is sugared sodas & juices. Switch to diet soda & ''light'' juice drinks.

If u continue to have issues, ask ur doc about using an insulin pump, which more & more Type 2 is r using.

check out the south beach diet. talk to your doctor about it. my mom is type 1 diabetic for about 25 years and was put on it. it is helped so much. she is lost weight, has better control of blood sugars, and does not even crave sweets anymore. if you have questions feel free to ask. sometimes it helps to hear other peoples personal experiences before starting a diet.

Exercise can help you to lose weight, by building muscle and burning calories. Although this can take time, particularly to physically notice the differences, each activity becomes easier as you become fitter. Always make sure exercise is appropriate to your situation.

Have you looked at South Beach diet? It is high in fiber and whole foods to help keep your blood sugar from peaks and crashes. The American Dietary Association has a host of guidelines based on calorie count that they use for diabetics which is basically the diet program that Weight Watchers uses.

Eat low fat protein, fresh fruit and vegetables, whole grain bread, brown rice, sweet potatoes instead of white and steer clear of processed foods.
