Type 1 Is insulin dependant, injections
Type 2 can be contolled with diet or tablets. No danger to health if cared for correctly

Type 1 is when the pancreas stops producing insulin. It is genetic & incurable & not caused by bad diet. They require insulin injections for the rest of their life.

Type 2 is when the pancreas still produces insulin, but due to poor eating, the chemical required to process the glucose in food is hampered. Tablets act as the chemical in the process & some people also require insulin injections. Type 2 is curable & can be prevented with good nutrition.

When the body has to deal with excess sugar & ketones (by-product produced by the body) in it is system it puts a strain on the kidneys. It can damage the blood capillaries in the extremities (like feet & hands) & also the eyes & can lead to eye problems including blindness. It can also contribute to coeliac disease.

Both require some genetic component. Type l is considered an AUTOIMMUNE disease, because ur body fights ur pancreas. Type l need Insulin, all the pills do not work for them, they r INSULIN DEPENDENT. Type I l typically develops after people get fat. They r Insulin Resistant, so some pills can make them more sensitive to their own insulin, or force their pancreas to make more. Sometimes if they lose alot of weight, thay can go off all meds! Sometimes they need additional insulin too.

Type one is normally diagnosed when u r younger, from birth to around the age of 30. With these people, their pancreas is making little to no insulin. Therefore they r insulin dependent & must take up to 6 injections each day. With type 2, there r two things that can happen. Your pancreas can be making a lot of insulin, but the body is not using it properly. This is insulin resistant type 2. Or, the pancreas can be making only a very small amount of insulin. Most type 2 diabetics take oral medications that help their bodies use the insulin better, & keep the liver from producing more sugar than it should. Some have to take insulin, & some take both. It is normally diagnosed later in life, usually after the age of 30 or 35. It is NOT caused by a bad diet. Most of it is genetic, both types can be genetic, especially type 2. You do not have to be overweight or have a bad diet to develop type 2. This is a very common misconception about the disease. 51% of type 2 diabetics r not or ever have been overweight. It can CAUSE weight gain, but is not caused by it. Uncontrolled diabetes of either type can cause kidney disease, heart & artery disease, stroke, heart attack, limb amputations & many other things. If a person keeps their disease controlled well, they will have a better quality of life. Both types of diabetics should watch their diet & get daily exercise.

l can not believe how ignorant some of these people r !! Breezey says it is not a health threat. Boy r u WRONG. Most diabetics r type 2. Type 1 makes up only 10% of the people that have the disease. Both can be extremely dangerous to ur health. Type one is typically known as ''juvenile'' diabetes because it is usually diagnosed at an early age, & this type is insulin dependent because their pancreas is not making the required amount of insulin, or none at all. Most make a little. Type 2 is diagnosed later in life, typically around 40, sometimes earlier, sometimes later. This type is treated with a variety of either oral medication or insulin. Sometimes they have to take both. There r some type 2 diabetics that can control their disease by diet & exercise if they have the will power. Not all type 2 is disease can be controlled this way. It all depends on the disease & the pancreas. Being fat has nothing to do with getting type 2. A bad diet does not cause type 2 either. Both types of diabetes r a direct result of the pancreas not functioning right.
