l was just wondering, because l need a physical for the 9th grade and my friend got hers (she has a different doctor than me btw) and they had to check her blood sugar by pricking her finger. l had a blood test done to check for thyroid problems around 6 months ago, so would l have to have my finger pricked? Do regular blood tests check that? l was just wondering what to expect.

l think you need to ask for a certain blood test called A1C test to check for blood sugar.

The most common blood tests r a complete blood cell count (CBC) & basic metabolic panel (BMP). Glucose is checked in the BMP along with electrolytes such as sodium & potassium. The hemoglobin A1C test mentioned by someone else estimates ur average blood sugar over a prolonged amount of time. This test is generally checked if a person has a new onset of symptoms of diabetes or if, for some reason, it is believed that a known diabetic has not been properly controlling their sugar for some time.

Your doctor may have a blood sugar on file for u from ur previous test, but may not if all that was being checked were ur thyroid functions. Either way, l can almost guarantee that they will do a finger stick at the physical.
