You should check your sugar first thing in the morning and before each meal. if your sugar is running really low you need to contact your doctor. Having low blood sugar is just as bad as having high blood sugars.

Check it soon after u wake up in the morning, before u eat anything. That should give u a good indication of what ur baseline is. Then u can check it about an hour after u eat, & that should tell u the highest that it gets.

The best way to regulate hypoglaucemia is through diet. Do not eat a lot of sugary things, because that makes ur blood sugar skyrocket & then ur body pushes it back down so much that is drops too low. For example, in the morning, eat a piece of fruit rather than a glass of fruit juice. The juice is more or less pure sugar, while the fruit has fiber & other things that will help control the blood sugar.

What is low to you?

A good regimen if you are just starting is:
* first thing in the morning
* one hour after breakfast
* one hour after lunch
* one hour after dinner
* bedtime

If you feel low at any time, test. What you are looking for are levels between 70-110 before eating, and under 140 one hour after.

Once you get a baseline for what your sugars are doing your doctor may want you to test less.

How low? Have you just been diagnosed? A normal everyday routine seems to work best. As far as your doctor telling you to test less-- that will never happen. Check your sugars reguraly before meals and after if needed. If you are diabetic and going to be insulin dependent it would not surprise me if you were put on a sliding scale which requires you to test before every meal. Knowing what your glucose level is the most important factor in managing.

Check in the morning before eating anything and two hours after eating.
