If not controlled both type 1 & type 2 can be fatal. Type 1 faster if there is no insulin supplement. In type 2 there is usually, at the start to much insulin but it can not work right.
In both cases the extra sugar in the blood stream causes the cells to die & not be replaced correctly.
Left untreated the kidneys stop working, the arteries harden, the heart gives out & u get strokes.
Both types can be treated with the patient living to a normal life expectancy.

yes it is,,, hmm,,, even before patients r diagnosed with diabetes,, they r at increased risk of morbidity & mortality from macrovascular disease ( iskemik heart desease, stroke & peripheral vascular desease ),, prediabetic risk arises from the many atherosclerotic risk factors inherent in the metabolic syndrome,, once diabetic hyperglicaemia ensues, the patients acquires the additional risks of microvascular desease,, including retinopathy,, nephpropathy, & neuropathy, because patients with hyperglicaemia r often asymptomatic for years,, many have evidance of either microvascular or macrovascular complications at the time of diagnosis.

Simply having diabetes is not fatal. Allowing high blood sugar to persist over long periods of time can cause all sorts of nasty things to develop that very likely can become fatal.

It can be if not controlled properly with insulin. And also treating hypo is too, which you can take glucose sweets or hypogel for and then eat something with carbs in it. As long as you do regular blood sugar readings and take your insulin and dont eat too many sweet things, everything will be fine. Its just getting it under control that really matters.

l have type 1 diabetes. If you dont take insulin and just keep on eating sugar than you can have a seizure go into acoma and yes, die. But if you take insulin and watch your blood sugar than you wil be fine.
