When l got my blood work done, my blood glucose level was elevated as well as my Hgb A1c.Ever since my sugars have been normal.What is up?

That is the way this disease works. Congratulations on having normal blood sugars, but if ur HbA1C was elevated, u need to keep testing at other times & see when it is you're getting the higher readings.

Interestingly enough, when u have an elevate A1C, u may also be HYPOglycemic--you may also have LOW blood sugar. When u do not eat for a while, ur liver dumps glucagon into ur blood, which turns into glucose & raises ur blood sugar. This happens sometimes in the night when you're sleeping--and u may not know it. Keep testing, & keep track of when u eat, when u test & what ur readings are---and see what ur pattern is. Then take that info to ur doctor & have him/her analyze it.

The A1c is a three month average of ur blood glucose level. It is the main number the doctors look at to determine if u r improving. The test strips & meters r good for daily use but r not near the accuracy of lab testing. If ur daily blood levelsare normal, that means u r eating right, exercising & taking ur meds. Your A1c will eventually come down.

My A1c back in December 2006 was 11.0. In July it was down to 6.1 which is the high end of normal. It takes time to get ur A1c down to the normal range. Just keep doing what u r doing.

Sounds like you are focused on controlling your condidtion. It happens! My first HbA1C was 12.1, 2nd 6.1, next 5.8 and almost two years later 5.5. Stay focused and enjoy a healthier life.
