For a non diabetic is that good.....???

My family is saying l should get rechecked....

The only reason l worry is...My mom was Juv diabetic, died at 34 when l was 16.....
ALSO......
l had gestational with my last preg. which was really easy to follow a diet...
But this is where my worry comes from.

Both of those labs r normal. The hemoglobin A1C detects long term blood sugar control, which is the better indicator of hyperglycemia than a simple blood glucose. The A1C is used to monitor effectiveness & adherence to diabetes treatment in people with diabetes. A blood glucose can range from 60-110 normally, & in times of stress it can increase to meet additional demand from the body. When the blood sugar reaches 125, healthcare providers generally will follow up the number with a repeat test or further testing (glucose tolerance test) to see if blood sugar is not controlled.

Sometimes we do not know why people develop juvenile onset diabetes. Most adults develop type II, which can be related to a number of lifestyle problems or simple heredity. If ur gestational diabetes resolved, then u can just follow up annually.

Was there a symptom or problem which caused these level to be checked?

yes 5.4 for an A1c is very good if not a wee bit low.
The medics in the UK always want mine to be 6 to 6.5 & it is currently 8.5 but much better than 10.5 that it was before.
l just started on an insulin pump which has helped no end.
l think that u should call the doctor & ask their opinion but it strikes me that if u have the results then they have & if they were worried they would call u but l think 5.4 sounds good to a little low to me.
Good luck
and stop worrying do not u know stress causes type 2 diabetes. LOL
Type one is probably due to some kind of auto immune attack on Islet cells in the pancreas or possibly due to viral infection causing damage to the same cells.
Type two is invariably poor dietry habits, life style cahnges, & finally hereditary predisposition
By the way l am 52 & have been type 1 since l was 2 so l seem to be okay, diabetes is not the killer it once was so if u r lucky enough to have it do not stress just do the tests & follow the diet & take the meds all will be fine.

Your A1c was perfectly normal, & ur fasting was okay also. If u r concerned about ur getting diabetes, u should probably arrange to have ur tests every six months with ur doctor. In the meantime, u could get a test kit, some lancets & strips & test ur fasting in the morning & ur numbers two hours after ur meals occasionally, just to see if u r having BG numbers over 120. Many women have gestational diabetes & never have another problem. However, u might eat a low fat, high protein, low carb diet & try to keep ur weight normal to help to prevent the onset of diabetes. Best of Luck.

Visit my blog site and print off the Blood Glucose Level Chart. The chart relates the HbA1C and daily finger prick test results. The chart cover the whole range.

Study the chart and enjoy your good health.

Best Wishes.

A normal A1C should be below 6.0. Fasting glucose of 99 is a little high by the new guidelines (which are 90) but just below the old (100). Since your A1C is well below the threshold l do not think you have anything to worry about but getting the test done can never hurt.

Good Luck!
