My mother has type 2 diabetes, what is the risk that l can have it too? Also, l do bring my lunch box in the office and the rice is usually cold when l eat it during lunchtime, can it caused diabetes. l am now 41, years old. Hope to get your reply soon and many thanks.

l have never heard of cold rice causing diabetes! You would have a greater chance. l would be sure to exercise and keep a lower weight

Because it is genetic l would get tested often. l actually spend my time volunteering for Juvenile Diabetes and raising money for research so l know it can be life threatening. l have never heard of the rice thing before, so l apologize l am not sure. l am 34, & my mother also has type 2 diabetes. The chances r good that we, as their daughters will get it. The key to to live a healty life. Eat well & get some exercise. If more women in ur family, aunts, grandmothers have also had it, ur chances r greater. I've been checked several times for diabetes & so far l havent been tested positive. l do check my sugar, a good number is around 100. The time to talk with ur doctor about it is now. Just remember, eatting well doesnt mean that u have to go onto a diet, just do it smart.

The risk is great particularly if u r overweight & expose yourself to stress. My father got Type 2 very late in life & my brother & l both now have it (type 2). l got it a 61 & he at 62 years of age. We r somewhat overweight, however even if we were not l am sure that it wouldnt have missed us as it is also genetic.

It is wise to get a monitor & from time to time take ur blood glucose levels. Its simple & wise as diabetes like high blood pressure can be a silent killer causing damage which can easily be avoided if one is vigilant.

Your quality of health can be even better because u r prone to doing what is healthy & good for you. Good luck & get proactive.

As for the rice, hot or cold has nothing to do with diabetes.
