im waking up shaky and lower blood sugars. between 60-70 for the most part. around 100 l feel great. for the most part during the day l can keep it under 120. no matter what l eat before bed l wake up feeling funny. l work second shift. even though l know it isnt the best for you l end up eating before bed when l get off work late. ill feel fine before bed then ill wake up and lately drinking juice or something first thing in the morning to get rid of the shakes.

is there a reason l go low over night? once l drink something in the morning like juice or something with a sugar in it l feel fine. is it ok to do this everyday?

im going to talk to my doctor. im on meds and l usually take one in the morning with breakfast and another with dinner at 7pm. l work in a hot machine shop and my blood sugars have been low at night cause of the heat. im wondering if my doc might stop the meds at night..

Your doctor can advise you better than us, but the orange juice is what they use in the nursing home.

You definitely need to ask your doctor, only she can run the tests, and interpret them, and l would do it right away, because it certainly sounds like you are taking too much medicine at night. Your blood sugar is usually low in the morning, but l do not think it should be that low. This is good news though!

l am a longtime type I l myself, & l had a similar problem a while ago. No matter what l had for a snack before bed, my sugars were 50-65 in the am & l could barely get out of bed. My MD changed my med schedule & had me take my aggressive med (glyburide) earlier in the evening so it was not as bad, & he told me to have a snack that had a slower carb absorption rate, like oatmeal or whole grain crackers & cheese. It helped a lot, but l would definitely check with ur doctor & tell him all u posted here. Maybe ur med times & types of foods will have to be adjusted for the later work & sleep hours? Until then though, having sugar when u wake up is the best thing to keep from passing out when u get up. A few graham crackers or some juice will work fine.and keep checking ur numbers. Knowing how different ''sugar levels'' feel to ur own body is very valuable to us diabetics. It saved my life when l had a crash down to 44 once.
Keep up the good work!!!

My husband had the same problem a while ago, & his doctor changed his meds at night. You might also consider eating foods that have higher glycemic indexes, but the main thing is to talk with ur doctor to fix that b/c ur blood sugar is getting dangerously low in the mornings. Another option is to wake up to drink OJ or grape juice, but that will just spike ur blood sugar for 20 mins & u will be back in the same boat. It sounds like a problem with ur meds. And no, it is not OK to keep doing that. Your blood sugar is WAY TOO LOW when u wake up & could make u so sluggish that ur judgment is impaired when u wake up.

Eating whole grains with meals will help keep your blood sugar more stable.
