Unfortunately, there is no real way to prevent diabetes. It can be genetic many times, both types of it. Just try to get plenty of exercise each day & eat a good diet. This is about the extent of the prevention. If either of ur parents have diabetes, u have a risk factor. If it was just grandparents, the risk is still there, but not as great. Many people will tell u that type 2 is caused by being overweight & eating the wrong foods. This is not true. Most type 2 diabetics r not nor have they ever been overweight. And they never bring up the fact that type 1 diabetics can be overweight too. So ,no being overweight is not the cause of diabetes. But it is just good sense to try to lose weight if u r carrying around any extra. It is good for the whole body & the heart & lungs do not have to work as hard. l would just try to live a happy, active life & not let diabetes over shadow ur dreams. If it does develop, it can be controlled & does not mean the end of ur life.

It depends on what type of family history of diabetes. Two things can cause diabetes. 1.) genetic predisposition. 2.) Becoming overweight/obese & not exercising causing ur body to not being capable of handling or processing the food u eat.
If u have a genetic predisposition to it, its the luck of the draw. But what u can do to minimize the risk is to exercise, eat right (high fiber, low fat, low salt, low cholesterol, low processed sugars) in the right portions. Studies suggest that their is a higher incidence of diabetes correlation with the fat around ur abdomen & thighs. Like if u have a thick fat pad around stomach, u should try & get rid of this by exercising.

no way to prevent diabetes if it is written in your body is blue print(genes).
if it is not written it your blue print, then you will never acquire it

If your family has an history of diabetes, It is not necessary that everyone in the family should get it. Some may even escape it. However, precautionary measures like reduced intake of sugar based items, controlled diet and regular exercise will keep you in good stead. Avoid thinking about diabetes, if you do not have it.

l am aware that mine is not a answer, but my question could be helpful to others.
Is it true that 66% of the children of diabetic parents (both) are guaranteed to be diabetic ?
If yes, can you still beat it with the right diet, exercise and and active life.
