l was diagnosed with severe anemia a few weeks ago and put on iron supplements.l was also told to take Vitamin C and drink lots of orange juice to give the iron a boost.I am feeling much better already. But my blood sugar has gone sky high since. Sometimes l can not get a reading, it is off the scale. The doctor told me to take cinnamon capsules to counteract this. This has brought my blood sugar down a lot but it is still too high.Could the iron and/or the Vitamin C have caused this?I'd appreciate any help.I am really scared.

It is the orange juice.

l agree with BOLT, its the OJ. call your MD and tell him whats going on. Did the MD discuss with you why you are severely anemic - if not when you call ask him the specifics as to why you are anemic. Anemia is sometimes a symptom rather than a diagnosis.

Clinical studies have shown that Cinnamon has little to no effect on bringing down blood sugars. The orange juice is what caused your blood sugar to go high. It has a lot of sugar in it. Taking the vitamin C supplements is enough. You will get more Vitamin C that way than drinking orange juice.

It is definitely the Orange Juice--but ur doc is WAAAY off with the cinnamon. There has been absolutely not one study that confirms that cinnamon lowers blood sugar, & he, as a medical professional, should KNOW that!!

l would look for another doctor ASAP. There r better ways to treat anemia nowadays, AND, ur doc should have realized that the OJ would raise ur sugar way high! It is not the vitamin C--you can take that in pill form & not risk the high readings! If ur sugars r too high to even register, u r risking SERIOUS problems---GET ANOTHER OPINION.

The OJ is knocking it up and IA with your doctor on the cinnamon. It has been known to help lower blood glucose. There are other ways to get iron like eating sunflower seeds and various other foods.
