I've been on the pump for over 5 years now and my blood sugar has been out of control

l am really suprised - my husband has been on a pump for a few years now & his sugar levels have never been better. He was really stable on the pig insulin then they changed him to the artificial insulin & he used to hypo all the time. It was a nightmare till he got the pump.

most likely ur basal rates, sensitivity, & carb to insulin ratio r not correct. the pump is not supposed to make things worse. u need to talk with ur doctor about the levels ur insulin is at. u may also need to change the times ur basal rates change. also, be sure u keep an eye on ur weight. any weight gain or loss can mess with basal rates & ur sensitivity & carb to insulin ratio, & they will need to be adjusted.

Then something is wrong.I've never met anyone who had better BG is with injections. Have u been seeing a Diabetes Educator? You need to.they can download ur pump & meter & help u figure out patterns & adjustments. My A1C dropped a full point & my lows & extreme highs were so much less frequent. Perhaps u need to use the dual wave feature more, perhaps u need to put ur cannula in a different area, maybe just some adjustments r needed. Do u do fasting tests periodically to test ur basal rates?

My A1C was an 11 before l got my insulin pump. Now it is a 6.0. l lost 60lbs with my pump to. l love my pump it is changed my life.
It is very odd to have higher sugars with a pump. Often times if you tell your diabetic specialist they will make you test every 3 hrs and write down all you eat. It is a common way to see where the peaks and valleys are throughout a normal day and where you might need adjustments.
